The Teaching about Climate Justice eeCourse is an asynchronous, fully online course designed to prepare educators to teach climate justice topics more confidently to students in grades 6-12 or working with youth ages 12-18. Course Information
This course is designed to prepare participants to teach about climate justice topics with middle or high school students. Participants will deepen their understanding of climate justice, confront and explore their own feelings about teaching climate justice topics, gather new resources to use in your classroom or program, and create high-quality, locally relevant lesson plan(s) that can be incorporated into your current curriculum or programming.

Course Dates
The course starts Monday April 14 and ends Friday May 9th. The course has 4 modules. It is recommended that participants move through the modules (one per week) but participants can move through the course at their own pace. The course moderator requests that participants submit journal entries by Thursday of each week for feedback.

Number of Participants
This course can hold 15 participants and registration is based upon a first come first serve basis.

Certificate of Completion
All participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion and encouragement to add completion of this training to your CV/resume. Classroom educators will receive 16 contact hours following course completion.

Gain a deeper understanding of climate justice and Identify climate justice issues and solutions in your community.
Explore the principles for teaching climate justice and feel better be prepared to make the case for teaching climate justice.
Explore strategies to address climate anxiety
Explore and reflect on how your identity and your students’ identities and how identity impacts the teaching and learning of climate justice
Investigate civic engagement and how students can take action to give them hope in the face of the climate crisis.
Create a lesson plan on climate justice that moves students through a series of hands-on activities in a clear and appropriate learning progression.
Expectations
As a student of this course, it is expected that you…
Have some background knowledge of and comfortability engaging with or teaching climate change topics
Commit the time required to complete all readings, assignments, and assessments over the 4 weeks.
Complete Modules 1-4 and their associated assignments, as well as submit the final course assessment. You will have 4 weeks to complete the course upon enrollment.
Assessments and Feedback
Periodic assessments at the end of each module must be completed with at least 80% accuracy or a score of 2, as indicated in the scoring guides provided.
Your course moderator will also provide comments and thoughts on your course journal entries.
To receive a certificate of completion, you must complete all assignments and receive the scores as indicated above.
